Sun Is Out..Everyone, Outside!

Too nice to be inside........
Our granddaughter came home from school yesterday practically in tears .  She was carrying a sack with the saddest, most tattered looking sewing pieces I have ever seen.  This was her 1st of many,  little sewing projects...a summer top. Project was due the first of  this coming week, and by the look of what was inside this bag, she would never pass this class.  Good grief!  This child comes from a family of long time quilters, seamstress, etc., etc.  Could not get over there fast enough!  Tossed her sad, little bag in the trash and we went straight to the fabric store.  She picked out a light cotton fabric and to work we went. Turned on a little music, made tacos and started the project.  Within an hour (maybe an hour and a half) the bodice with lining was completed, straps attached and zipper ready.  Have to say, it really was a wonderful  feeling watching the big smile form on her face and the relieve I saw in her shoulders and body when she was done.  She had made her 1st wearable clothing item all by herself with just a little guidance.  Pictures of this project to follow shortly.

Do hope your day is going well and there is much sunshine or many quilts to keep you warm.

Rainy Day

No sunshine today..looks like it's going to rain all day.  Perfect day for sewing!  Have a few new ideas, one of which I finished yesterday, and might add, it is one of the most ridiculous items ever finished!  At times you have to sit back and say, what in the world were you thinking?  Oh well, another excuse to hit the sewing room.
Love to hear from anyone with some fresh new ideas.
A few of our customers have been requesting us to do a video on 'how to' on most of our items.  Especially the Rag Rug Book and the quilts.   Having a hard time just getting to know the ins and outs of this blogging thing, Tweeting and Facebook.  Speaking of which, I walked into Best Buy this week and traded my antique cell  phone for the new I Touch thingy.  Good grief!  It will take me months to understand how to even answer a call!   Hubby keeps calling all day just to check to see if I have mastered it.  If he does that one more time..........
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!  Now, off to sew.

Mission Almost Accomplished

Hm-m-m  do believe this latest quilt will be the first designed for the little guys.  Thank you to a wonderful customer who will soon have her hands full with a baby girl and a baby boy!  She asked if we had anything for a baby boy and I, of course, replied no.  Mind you, that was back in November and sales were happening, customers had become demanding, but friendly and I was loosing my mind.  So this sweet customer was put on the shelf until the other night when I woke with that horrible thought....I forgot to add a new quilt line for the boys in our life.  This latest is a start, don't you think?
Just might leave the sewing room today to enjoy this fabulous weather we are experiencing.  It's a big 40 right now with a promise to reach 75 later on.  I'd like to go find a dog.
Hope your Friday is going well.

New Baby Quilt

Woke up the other night with a scary thought!  My shop had turned pink!  There is nothing in the store for little boys!  What's up with that?    Bad...really bad.  Guess what I am doing today?

Hope you are having a great Thursday!

Someone asked me last week how I came up with the design of my new quilts.....2 years ago I was frantically making traditional quilts like a crazy person.  My daughter told me after giving her my first quilt that is was "the best present she had EVER received and of course, that was enough to inspired me to make more...lots more.  So my quilter friend (the one you pay $$ to have your quilt quilted) said within 6 months I had become her favorite customer!  That meaning only one thing...I was paying her more than all the other 45 gals she was quilting for.  Hubby was soon wondering why we had hot dogs and eggs every other night.  I had fallen victim of the quilters madness!  It had to stop, I was falling into the money pit.
My quilter friend (remember, the one you pay $$ to have your quilt quilted) moved to Florida.  That being said,   my quilting had come to the end of the line.  There was no way I wanted to start anew with a quilter.  This was my only chance to save myself so...
I designed a quilt made completely by me with no long arm, no batting, no special backing fabric and took it to one of the largest quilters shows in California..They say 18,000 to 22,000 customers come looking for that special quilt within a 3 day run. Well, my daughter and I decided to sale ONLY  fabric at this really big show I might add that we had NO experience whatsoever at!  After the 2nd day, we were more than ready to throw in the towel and go home (forgot to mention, we were not speaking to each other by this time).  Then a customer came up and needed a special print of fabric that was tucked in under the table.  When reaching for the fabric my quilt was tossed on the back of the chair and that was that!  Every person that came through the show had to touch, feel and gawk at the quilt.  There you have it...patterns were designed, kits made and we were off.

Now, off to my little corner, the sewing room.  Do hope you are having a great Wednesday!

That didn't take long....

Good grief!  Setting up a blog might be a simple task for many, but for me it was a major accomplishment!  Picture is a little too extreme in size, but at this point it became one of those 'we will think about it tomorrow' tasks.
Off to the sewing room where no computers are allowed.
